Landscape metrics

They are quantitative tools that measure and characterize the spatial patterns, structures, and compositions of landscapes.

They are statistical measures that help researchers and land managers analyze the geometric characteristics of patches, classes of patches, or entire landscape mosaics. Landscape metrics are essential in landscape ecology as they quantify both composition (the variety and abundance of patch types) and configuration (the spatial arrangement of landscape elements) without requiring direct field observation.

Land cover maps

Having up-to-date land cover maps is crucial for calculating landscape metrics, which inform decisions on sustainable development, conservation, and environmental protection. With land cover maps, we can monitor changes in ecosystems, plan urban growth, and ensure that our natural resources are used wisely. Join us in exploring how these maps are revolutionizing the way we care for our planet. Within our project, resolution land cover maps have been developed using Sentinel-2 satellite images.

Closest greenness

Ever wondered where the nearest green oasis is? Our innovative map uses cutting-edge land cover data to pinpoint the closest parks, forests, and other natural havens to your location. By analyzing detailed land cover maps, we calculate the proximity of these green spaces, helping urban planners create more sustainable environments and encouraging residents to connect with nature. Open data

All presented results and products are based on open data delivered by the European Copernicus programme. It combines data from satellites, such as the Sentinel missions, and in-situ measurements to offer services in six thematic areas: land, marine, atmosphere, climate change, emergency management, and security. Copernicus aims to improve environmental management, mitigate climate change effects, and enhance civil security, with all its data and services available free of charge to users.
